Installation · Bio-Art · 2022 — Present

My living sculptures use non-toxic and odorless microalgae as a primary medium, creating works that are simultaneously art objects and functional carbon-capture systems. Each piece breathes, absorbing CO₂ and producing oxygen, transforming spectators into active participants in an ecological exchange. According to decades of scientific research, oceanic algae capture about half of global carbon dioxide and produce roughly half of the planet’s oxygen, making them essential to Earth’s climate and life systems.

The participatory nature of my sculptures, where audiences breathe with algae, contributing to their growth, embodies a cycle of reciprocity and care, transforming spectators into co-creators sharing responsibility for ecological and social regeneration.

As a free diver since early childhood, someone who breathes only from the water’s surface, breathing holds deep personal and cultural meaning for me. I was raised with the sense that our ancestors remain present in the sea as part of the planetary cycles that move through tides, bodies, and Time. The ongoing series is entitled Book of Waves, where each piece is an individual archive of collective breath and memory, transported from the sea into an exhibition space.
